The offering

Plaster is the surface everything else is judged against. We cement plaster, skim and finish walls and ceilings, repair cracked and damp damaged work, and lay on the textured lime and Venetian finishes that a smooth wall cannot give you.

A wall that is not flat shows up the moment low light crosses it, and no amount of paint hides it. Getting it flat is a matter of screeds, beads and patience: setting up to a line, working to corner and stop beads so that edges are straight and stay straight, and giving each coat the time it needs before the next one goes on.

We do the ordinary work well. Cement plaster on new masonry, skimming over plaster or board, ceilings, cornices and bulkheads, and the making good that follows a renovation, where new openings, chased conduit and patched brickwork all have to disappear into one continuous surface.

Cracks and damp get diagnosed before they get covered. A hairline shrinkage crack is a filling job. A crack that steps through the courses is a movement problem and plaster over it will reopen within a year. Rising and penetrating damp are treated at the source, and old lime plastered walls on heritage homesteads are repaired in lime rather than cement, because a cement coat traps moisture in a wall built to breathe and pushes the damage further up.

Where the wall is meant to be seen rather than painted, we apply polished plaster, Venetian and tadelakt style finishes and textured lime washes, in the soft, hand worked surface that suits a Cape interior.
